Who Our Programs Help
The PenFed Foundation changes lives through financial education, credit building, home ownership and short-term assistance.
Meet DennisHe is a 42-year-old disabled veteran, honorably discharged from the United States Army as a combat medic in 2014. Since Dennis has a 90% disability rating, he receives about $3,500 a month through the VA. However, due to his combat-related disability, he is not able to work to earn extra income.
Dennis and his wife recently decided to adopt his two nieces upon the passing of their mother. This process set the family back financially and his flawless credit score was in jeopardy.
Through the PenFed Foundation, Dennis was able to apply for Emergency Financial Assistance where he received $3,500 for his past due mortgage payment along with financial counseling to help him budget accordingly during this period of financial set-back.

Lee & Penny Anderson Defenders LodgeThe PenFed Foundation raised $11 million to cover the cost of building the Lee & Penny Anderson Defenders Lodge – a $17 million public-private partnership with the Department of Veteran’s Affairs. This facility provides a home and respite to veterans and their families undergoing outpatient treatment at the Palo Alto, California VA Medical Center.
Since the facility opened in 2014, the Foundation has provided for 125,000 nights stay to our Veterans and their families, saving them more than $34 million on lodging expenses as part of this special project.

Meet KerbyYou’re not just giving money. You’re saving a life.”
Those are the words of former U.S. Army service member Kerby Stracco, who’s husband suffered severe injuries while serving in Kuwait. Kerby must take her husband to doctor’s appointments, and needed help with childcare. The PenFed Foundation helped cover the costs for her three young children through the Military Heroes Family and Caregivers grants.
We provide child care assistance to families who are experiencing financial strain in their lives as they cope with circumstances surrounding the challenges involved in caring for a wounded warrior.

Your Donations Help Our Military Heroes
Help create a strong and secure financial future for our nation’s defenders. They have given so much for us, we should be able to help them.
The mission of the PenFed Foundation is to provide service members, Veterans, their families and support networks with the skills and resources they need to build a strong financial future. We change lives through financial education, credit-building, home ownership and short-term assistance. PenFed Credit Union funds PenFed Foundation’s personnel and most operational costs, so more of your donation directly supports our nation’s service members, Veterans and their caregivers.
Our Signature Events
We have two main events each year that help create awareness for our Military Heroes as well as create the funding needed to help our veterans and their families.
