The PenFed Foundation awarded a Military Heroes High Impact Community Grant to the Veterans One-Stop Center of Western NY. The center offers a comprehensive portfolio of supportive services designed to meet the needs of Veterans and their families through on-site providers, referral to outside resources, and Veteran-to-Veteran mentoring services that offer social events and recreational opportunities. The Peer Support Program for Children of Military Parents helps military children transition to civilian life and deals with the unique issues of those whose parent(s) serve in the military. The program increases resiliency among children and enhances their emotional and social well-being by developing a peer network of children with similar experiences. It also leads to trustful relationships and therefore better equips children to deal with military family life and the transition to civilian life.
