The Defenders Lodge
In 2008, the PenFed Foundation raised $11 million to cover the cost of building The Lee & Penny Anderson Defenders Lodge -- a public-private partnership between the Foundation and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. This facility provides a home and respite to veterans and their families undergoing outpatient treatment at the Palo Alto, California VA Medical Center.
U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
The PenFed Foundation has partnered with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to help meet the immediate needs of homeless veterans as they find a place to live. We provide rent and utility deposit checks, home furnishings, and local transportation vouchers as they work to find a job. This partnership has focused on Los Angeles, Detroit, Philadelphia, Charlotte (NC) and Puerto Rico.
With grant funds from the Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust, the PenFed Foundation launched a partnership with the Disabled American Veterans to provide emergency financial assistance and financial counseling services to veterans from all wars and all eras. This program expands upon the existing Military Heroes Fund program.
