This month is Military Families month, and we are highlighting the sacrifice of service members and their families all month long.
We honor service members like Air Force Reservist Enrique Paredes, who was called to serve at the onset of COVID-19. “I had been on orders, away from my family while they were stuck in a small apartment when the pandemic started.”
Owning a home suddenly became critical during the pandemic, when parks, pools and other spaces the family relied on outside their home suddenly closed. The Paredes family had long searched for a home, but needed help getting over a few financial hurdles.
Paredes had heard about the PenFed Foundation’s programs when we became the first Veteran Service Organization to launch a COVID-19 relief program for military and veterans in March. He learned about the Dream Makers home buying assistance program and was able to use the program towards closing costs for the family’s first home.
“Purchasing this home was crucial for maintaining good mental health for my wife and children.”
In their new home, Paredes’ children can play outside and have their own spaces for virtual learning now that school has resumed.
“Knowing they are happy and healthy allowed me to focus more clearly on my work for the Air Force Reserve. Thank you for everything the PenFed Foundation has done for us!”
