PenFed Foundation grant helps military family with twins’ childcare costs

November is Military Families Month, marking a nationwide recognition of the sacrifices made by service members and their families each and everyday. All throughout the month, we will be sharing stories of military families who were helped by the PenFed Foundation, like this story from the Conrad family:

Childcare grant helps with cost of daycare for twins

Army Sgt. Ronald Conrad was injured while serving two tours in Iraq. His wife, Angela, is now his caregiver and helps him attend frequent appointments for his multiple injuries, which include detached bicep, a collapsed disc in his back, PTSD and more.

“These injuries have forever changed our lives. He and I work very hard to try to keep life ‘normal’ for our children, but this can be difficult …,”Angela said.

Like many military families, these injuries caused a financial hardship that led to increased stress for the family of 5. The Conrad family applied for a PenFed Foundation Military Heroes Fund Childcare assistance grant so their twin boys could go to daycare while Angela worked and took care of her husband. The PenFed Foundation approved a grant to cover the full cost of childcare for one year for their sons.

“Thank you so much. This grant [has changed] my family’s life!”

Since the Military Heroes Fund – Emergency and Caregiver Support was started, it has provided financial support to military families totaling more than $7 million. To see if your family qualifies for a PenFed Foundation grant, click here:
