2020 has been a challenging year for all of us, including Military Heroes. Veteran unemployment reached a 20-year high, and many faced difficult financial situations after losing their jobs.
Unemployment affected CDR (Ret.) Joseph Hutchinson, a 21-year Navy combat veteran turned commercial airline pilot. When travel halted in early March, the airline was one of the first to go out of business, and Hutchinson was without a job at the height of the pandemic. Despite more than 25 years of experience as a pilot, Hutchinson was unable to find another job.
Like many who lost their job during the pandemic, Hutchinson faced tough decisions about how to pay his mortgage and turned to the PenFed Foundation for help. “Your assistance really helped me through this crisis.”
Hutchinson was able to get a job with the United States Postal Service, where he now makes 75% of what he made previously.
“The next 18-24 months are going to be tight. Every bit of income or assistance helps relieve the stress a little… so I thank you for your help!
While the pandemic and its effects are from over, together we can help military heroes like CDR Hutchinson from experiencing long-term financial hardships caused by short-term emergencies.
In this season of giving, will you help us support veterans like CDR Hutchinson?Donate
